Objectives of the Course The purpose of this course is:
1. to develop a student skill to read and write in Cyrillic,
2. to deepen the student understanding of the basic principles of Russian grammar;
3. to develop the student beginning vocabulary in Russian;
4. to develop the student basic communicative skills in Russian;
5. to deepen the student understanding of Russian culture;
6. to improve the student understanding of Russian culture in the context of the modern global challenges.
Course Content Introductory course to Russian language in the context of traditional and modern Russian culture and its reactions for the global challenges. The course covers the basic of Russian vocabulary and grammar and focuses on the practical usage of Russian for the touristic/business/social purposes, exploring and enjoying Russian culture (music, literature, cinema, humor etc.) and developing the necessary communicative skills.
Course Methods and Techniques Learners will be provided with as much opportunities of hands-on practice as possible with the aim of striking a balance between learner-centeredness and sufficient guidance. Various forms of interaction (i.e. pair work and group work) will also be encouraged to cater for learners with different learning styles. Additionally, individuals will be expected to produce both in-class writings and homework assignments in addition to the reading tasks, which will encourage them to reflect and think critically. Technology will also be incorporated into the classroom procedures in order to create a better learning environment.
