Objectives of the Course
|
(1) Describe the role of power electronics as enabling technology in various applications.
(2) To introduce the basic concepts of operation of dc-dc converters in steady state in continuous and discontinuous modes
(3) To introduce the single-phase and three-phase utility using diode and SCR rectifiers.
(4) To introduce the basic magnetic concepts, analyze transformer-isolated switch-mode power supplies.

Course Content
|
This course intends to teach the students power electronics concept, power computations, semiconductor switching devices, half wave rectifiers, full wave rectifiers, DC/DC converters, and inverter basics, basic characteristics of DC machines, single phase, three phase, and DC/DC converter drives, closed loop control of DC machines, induction machine drives, speed and torque control techniques of induction machines, synchronous machine drives, speed and torque control techniques of synchronous machines
