Objectives of the Course The aim of the Machine Elements course is to teach the working principles, design fundamentals, material selection, and strength criteria of fundamental components used in mechanical systems. The course covers the analysis and dimensioning of machine elements such as shafts, bearings, gears, fastening elements, springs, and clutches, with the objective of improving students’ engineering design skills.
Course Content This course covers the design principles of fundamental machine elements such as stress analysis, factor of safety, fatigue, shafts, bearings, gears, threaded fasteners, welded joints, springs, clutches, and brakes. In addition, standards, material selection, and engineering design applications are emphasized.
Course Methods and Techniques The course is conducted through theoretical lectures, problem-solving sessions, example applications, engineering design studies, and discussion-based student participation methods. In addition, computer-aided analysis and design applications are utilized to improve students’ practical skills.
