Objectives of the Course This course aims to understand the fundamental principles of environmental policies and politics and to analyze the dynamics in this field. Students will learn how environmental policies are shaped at both national and international levels, the proposed solutions to environmental issues, and how these interact within societal, economic, and political contexts. The course focuses on how environmental policies are managed by various actors and aims to understand the policymaking processes for environmental sustainability.
Course Content The Environmental Policy and Politics course discusses the social, economic, and political dimensions of environmental issues. The content covers the historical development of environmental policies, how environmental problems have found a place in politics, international environmental agreements, environmental movements, and the roles of key actors influencing environmental policies (governments, NGOs, corporations). It also examines the effective implementation methods and solution strategies of environmental policies.
Course Methods and Techniques The course employs a teaching method based on theoretical knowledge as well as case study analysis. Students will engage in active learning by discussing current environmental policy issues and participating in group work. They will also be expected to follow national and international developments that influence environmental policies and perform analyses on these developments. Through various discussions, seminars, and guest speakers, students will gain a deeper understanding of environmental policies.
