Objectives of the Course Providing a real-world civil engineering design experience with teamworking.
Developing skills for students to integrate and apply what they have learned in their civil engineering education
Course Content The course aims to provide students the opportunity to work with real-world problems and challenges in teams to design and make/build their prototypes with the guidance of a faculty mentor. Design work may cover a civil engineering design of structural, geotechnical, hydraulic or transportation systems, as well as development of innovative and functional construction materials. At the end of the semester, teams present their design and solutions to a panel of judges and invited guests from the construction industry.
Course Methods and Techniques This course is based on the team assignment. Learners will be provided with as much opportunities of hands-on practice as possible with the aim of striking a balance between learner-centeredness and sufficient guidance. Various forms of interaction (i.e. pair work and group work) will also be encouraged to cater for learners with different learning styles. Additionally, individuals will be expected to produce both in-class writings and homework assignments in addition to the reading tasks, which will encourage them to reflect and think critically. Technology will also be incorporated into the classroom procedures in order to create a better learning environment.

Course Notes For the Capstone Design, the primary objective is to design some special structures. The project area is indicated which is taken from Google Earth Pro view. Also, soil type is provided for the students. Moreover, the design should also address geotechnical studies, hydraulic/water resources, materials of construction, structural engineering, sustainability. Additionally, a comprehensive cost estimation for each department is vital.
