Objectives of the Course Identifying the chemistry of bioconjugates techniques.
Describing the functional groups, determination of biological targets and potential modifications, and chemical reactions.
Explaining the chemicals used in bioconjugation (functional cross linkers, tags, and probes) and their reaction mechanisms.
Teaching the specific bioconjugate applications and their reactions.
Course Content This course covers the determination of the functional groups/functions in biological systems and the chemical modifications and the reactions of these targets. In this course students learn Chemicals which are used in bioconjugation process (Functional chemical cross linkers, tags and probes) and their reactions. Bioconjugate applications such as bioconjugations and modifications are also covered.

Course Notes Bioconjugate Techniques, by Greg T. Hermanson.
Bioconjugate Techniques, Third Edition, is the essential guide to the modification and cross linking of biomolecules for use in research, diagnostics, and therapeutics. It provides highly detailed information on the chemistry, reagent systems, and practical applications for creating labeled or conjugate molecules. It also describes dozens of reactions, with details on hundreds of commercially available reagents and the use of these reagents for modifying or crosslinking peptides and proteins, sugars and polysaccharides, nucleic acids and oligonucleotides, lipids, and synthetic polymers.
