Objectives of the Course To teach the fundemental concepts, the selection of power devices and operating frequency, the design concepts of RPC
To teach operating principles, conversion and modulation techniques, series and parallel types, zero-current/zero-voltage switching types, naturally commutated and forced commutated types
To teach modelling, simulation, analysis and design techniques for RPC, loss, efficiency, harmonic, performance calculations and harmonic reduction techniques
To make students read, understand and interpret papers about RPC
Course Content Fundamental concepts in RPCs, Series and Parallel Resonant Converters, DC and AC Bus Interfaces, Uni and Bidirectional Switches, Uni and Bidirectional Power Flows, Frequency Responses, Class-E Resonant Inverters, Class-E Resonant Rectifiers, Zero Current/Voltage (Soft) Switching Converters, The Effects of Input/Output Voltage Levels and Converter Operating Frequency, Methods of Different Current/Voltage Regulations, Filtering Components, Utilization of Resonant Power Converters in Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS), Computer Aided Simulation of Various Types of Resonant Converter, Performance Analysis, Paper Reviews, Evaluation of Selected Studies by means of Software Simulations. Developing New Alternative Control Methods.

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1 Defines the fundamental concepts of RPCs
2 Explains the conversion techniques, operating principles and design criteria for the RPCs, differentiates where the zero-current switching or zero-voltage switching method should be used, selects proper switching devices and optimum operating frequency
3 Employs various types of RPCs for generating DC or AC outputs
4 Calculates the power delivered, loss, efficiency, and performance of RPCs, employs loss reduction and harmonic elimination techniques in RPCs,
5 Model, simulate, analyze and design RPCs by means of computer aided simulations
6 Understand, analyze and interpret the papers written about RPCs
