Objectives of the Course Describing a thorough familiarity with the theories on modern city and its emergence.
Discussing some of the cons and pros of theories of everyday life sociology around certain thematic.
Understanding critically to basic literary concepts in social stratification.
Course Content This course is intended as an overview on basic issues on sociology of city, everyday life and social class and stratification. In the first phase main emphasis will be on clarification of concepts and major classical perspectives about everyday life and city. Second part of the course will focus on the role of consumption, lifestyle and the concept of “taste” in defining class and status groups.
The course is intended to help the Architecture grad students to develop a thorough familiarity with the sociology of everyday life and social stratification. Central figures here include Marx, Weber, Simmel, Goffman, Bourdieu, Freud, Benjamin, Lefebvre, Debord, and de Certeau.
