Objectives of the Course Understanding the importance of selecting compatible materials in terms of the physio-chemical characteristics of the materials.

Explaining the materials and their basic properties in the masonry system.

Understanding the masonry mechanism.

Discussing about the intersections of the different materials and their degradation process in masonry.
Course Content This course is based on the traditional materials and techniques of buildings. It develops the knowledge of the practice, philosophies, issues, application, characteristics, and decay of traditional materials and innovative solutions for their conservation. This includes building techniques, skills and tools for the preservation of historic buildings and cultural heritage, their sustainability and impact on the environment.
