Objectives of the Course Examining and evaluating the spatiality of urban form and public space as modern artifacts of the city.
Introducing Early 20th Century vision of city, briefly.
Elaborating the theory and the discourse about city in the second half of the century through Berlin, New York, Venice etc.
Course Content Course introduces the conceptual frame work of modernity by instrumentalizing the cities. Modernity in architecture is posited as the main installer of architectural theory and its concepts. Actually, during over all modern times architectural theory establish divergent collaborations. It goes hand in hand with history, criticism, discourse, fiction. While modernity and architectural theory have formed a reciprocal relationship by feeding one another modernity has already been a main key concept to understand the cities. In this respect, course intends to focus on concept and issues of modernity through the representation and the impalpable experience of cities.
