Course Content
|
This is a seminar course which aims to pursue a detailed examination of the thought of modernity in Turkey since the 18th century as an industrious nonwestern example. The modern ideas are explored through primary and sources and their critiques. The course discusses the epochal shift and the secularization of a traditional order that had been imbued with divine or natural purpose and suggests that the condition of modernity refers to a set of institutional structures that have been introduced since the 18th century.
