Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to introduce the field of biomaterials to students, focusing on the mechanical, chemical, and biological properties of various classes of biomaterials. It will also cover strategies for selecting biomaterials based on the application site within the body.
Course Content This course aims to increase knowledge of students about applications of classical classes of materials and nanomaterials to the field of biomaterials science and engineering. Subjects of the course includes biomaterials definition and classes of biomaterials; polymeric, metallic, ceramics, and composite biomaterials; mechanical, chemical, and biological properties of various biomaterials classes; surface properties of biomaterials; immune reaction of body against biomaterials; biocompatibility; application examples.
Course Methods and Techniques Active learning will be used in the courses.
