Objectives of the Course The aim of the course is to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the structure and functions of the nervous system. In this context, the course will begin with an overview of the development of the nervous system and its cellular and molecular structure. Then, the generation of neural signals and their transmission through synapses, along with the mechanisms that regulate synaptic transmission at various levels, will be discussed. The course will also address the cellular mechanisms of learning and memory, and will conclude with sessions on neurological disorders such as neurodegenerative and psychological diseases, as well as speech disorders.
Course Content Neurons, highly specialized cells, possess an extraordinary capacity to detect and respond to various stimuli. This course will cover the organization of the nervous system, synaptic transmission, muscle contraction, spinal cord and brain motor mechanisms, the autonomic nervous system, somatic neural control, hearing and chemical senses, neural development, synaptic plasticity, and the organization of language and learning.
