Objectives of the Course
Course objectives are: - Understanding of the major cellular metabolic pathways and how cells work and grow. - Introduction to the basic principles of enzyme kinetics. - Understanding of the operation considerations of bioreactors. - Be familiar with the common separation techniques. - Ability to conduct literature review and design the strategy for a bioprocess.

Course Content
This course focuses on the applications of chemical engineering principles in the analysis and design of bio-based processes. The emphasis is placed on biochemical kinetics, enzyme engineering, cell growth and metabolism, bioreactor analysis and design, and recovery and purification of products. Students will have a group project on a bioprocess engineering application. You will produce a bioproduct in a bioreactor and cover the whole bioprocess for the production of the choseen bioproduct.
