Students will distinguish between chromosomal abnormalities and diseases caused by mutations. The lectures will cover the molecular basics of cell division. Course Content This course will focus on teaching the structure of DNA, prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene expression, the molecular process of gene expression, a genetic regulatory system, Meiosis, mitosis, Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics, translation and Proteins, Gene Mutation, DND repair and Transposition, Epigenetics, Emerging Roles of RNA and Gene Therapy Course Methods and Techniques Students are urged to explore genetic knowledge with curiosity and an open mind throughout this course. These genetic knowledge form the foundation for discoveries that shape our understanding of human genetics and health. Exams Exams for BENG309 (Genetics) will consist of two main exams: The content from the first half of the course will be covered in the midterm exam. It will evaluate your knowledge of fundamental ideas in genetics, such as Mendelian rules, the principles of molecules, and the early discoveries in genetics. Final test: The whole course will be covered in this test, with a greater emphasis on the second half.
