Objectives of the Course Learn the basics concepts of thermodynamics and the laws of thermodynamics.
Know about the theory of Gibbs free energy.
Familiarize with the applications of the thermodynamics laws and theories in biological systems.
Course Content This course presents the laws of thermodynamics and their applications to biological systems. Topics cover first, second, and third laws of thermodynamics, open and closed systems, enthalpy and specific heat and Gibbs free energy. It also covers the applications of Gibbs free energy in biological systems such as photosynthesis, ATP hydrolysis, PCR, protein stability and so on.
