Objectives of the Course
|
Examining the factors that have promoted urban development in the past and today. Providing knowledge about the possible impacts of different policies that encourage local economic growth. Introducing economic challenges cities face and showing examples of how they deal with these challenges. Providing basic knowledge about dynamics of urbanization in Turkey.

Course Content
|
Examinations of the location of economic activity and introduction of space into economic models are introduced and focused throughout the course at basic and undergraduate level. The main subject of the course can thus be considered to also include new approaches (compared to classical economic approaches) to development of cities, access to public services, distributions of health institutions, educational institutions and recreational areas, and influences of these on urban life. Housing, urban structures, area usage, social rupture, crime and education are examined through economic models including a focus on planning at the same time.

Course Methods and Techniques
|
This course will utilize methods such as case studies, data analysis on cities, group projects, and discussions. Students will work with historical and contemporary examples to analyze the factors and policies that promote urban economic growth. Additionally, literature reviews will be conducted to explore urbanization processes and the economic challenges faced by cities.
