Objectives of the Course
Outlining the theoretical foundations of VR, AR, MR, and XR in architectural design. Discovering VR, AR, MR, and XR tools and applications in architecture. Experiencing emerging technologies in architectural design. Constructing concepts through basic practical exercises.
Course Content
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the technologies of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Extended Reality (XR), which have recently become integral to architectural design as both an environment and a tool. It examines theoretical frameworks specific to architecture, encourages academic discussions, and includes structured presentations to foster a deep understanding. Additionally, the course incorporates small-scale design experiences to bridge the gap between these new technologies' theoretical concepts and practical applications.
Course Methods and Techniques
The course will be presented with a balance between learner-centeredness and sufficient guidance, supported by research, discussion-centered activities, and small hands-on experiences. Students will be expected to conduct research, participate in discussions based on readings, and produce in-class writings and assignments, encouraging them to think critically and analytically. Technology will be integrated into the course processes to create a more innovative learning environment.
