Type of Course Unit Elective
Course Delivery Method Face To Face
Objectives of the Course Explaining the conventional manufacturing technologies by considering the cost and quality of composite part
Discussing production technologies which are under the investigation
Introducing the classical laminate theory
Explaining the rule of mixture and its applications
Explaining anisotropy of composite
Explaining the failure mechanism of composite and damage types
Course Content This course aims to introduce students with composite materials which are being used in an increasing trend in the today’s driving sectors such as automotive, marine, wind energy and aerospace. Composite materials will be taught to students which allow them to design and produce their own composite parts and structures. Topics covered include manufacturing technologies of composite materials by considering the cost and quality, fibers, matrices, classical laminate theory, rule of mixture, anisotropy of composites, failure mechanism and damage types, and other up-to-date advanced topics related to mechanics, testing and production of composite.
