Outlining current spatial, interior and architectural theory, alongside the contemporary design projects, architects and designers. Examining definitions and approaches to the diverse and controversial subjects of space and design.

Course Content
|
The perception of the form in architecture created by the individual/social feeling will vary according to each individual, therefore each culture and geography. This process of producing the space also create of identity of space. In this scope, this course provides an intellectual environment to discuss the contemporary approaches on spatial practice which are considered as a form of performance based on approaches of design. The study on spatial design is conducted using the provided methods and processes, which results in new questions and articulated proposals.

Course Methods and Techniques
|
Learners will be provided with as much opportunities of hands-on practice as possible with the aim of striking a balance between learner-centeredness and sufficient guidance. Various forms of interaction (i.e. pair work and group work) will also be encouraged to cater for learners with different learning styles. Additionally, individuals will be expected to produce both in-class writings and homework assignments in addition to the reading tasks, which will encourage them to reflect and think critically. Technology will also be incorporated into the classroom procedures in order to create a better learning environment.

By the end of the course, the student will be able to LO1. To examine a new approach to the subject, underpinned by theory and research, to investigate diverse spatial possibilities and to question and improve the quality of designed environments. LO2. To verify issues about what constitutes space and spatial practice and how we inhabit, experience and remember space. LO3. To identify options and approaches to start and progress a structured method of research on spatial approaches. LO4. To propose autonomy and judgement, compose in text a critically constructed, original and personal definition of spatial design.
