Objectives of the Course

By the end of this course, students will be able:
1. Learn the relationship between mechanical properties of materials and microstructure
2. Learn the defects in materials and their effects
3. Learn the elastic deformation & plastic deformation at both micro and macro scales.
4. Learn the fracture mechanisms in materials.
5. Learn the effects of hydrogen interstitial on the microstructure of materials.
6. Learn the diffusion and localization of atomic hydrogen both close and far away from dislocations.
7. Learn the defects in laminated composite structures and their effects to elasticity.
8. Learn the fatigue at both micro and macro scales. and effects of dynamic strain aging and the corresponding strain rate sensitivity.
9. Learn the research on a specific subject and present findings
10. Learn the crystal plasticity modeling.
11. Learn to multi-scale modeling approach.

This course is aimed to teach the relationship between mechanical properties of materials and microstructure and obtain a good knowledge on crystal plasticity and multi-scale modeling.
