Objectives of the Course
|
1. Providing information about components and targets of SDG 8. 2. Discussing political, economic, scientific, technological, social and other related aspects of SDG 8 in relation to the problems targeted and challenges faced. 3. Assisting students to understand the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to address SDG 8 in addition to economic approach. 4. Engaging students with team-work towards solving a problem or completing a task. 5. Articulating the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration for addressing the complexities of SDG 8.

Course Content
|
This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8) among the 17 SDGs established by the United Nations. Natures of problems targeted in SDG 8 are explored throughout the course in the three parts of SDG 8: (i) Economic Growth, (ii) Employment, and (iii) Decent Work. All three aspects are introduced and related problems are discussed at local and global levels incorporating political, economic, scientific, technological, social and other potentially related perspectives. Students will gain knowledge about the interconnectedness of SDG 8 with various fields through working on the challenges in front of the three parts of SDG 8. There will be limited lecturing and team activities/assignments, individual pre-lecture assignments, and presentation by guest speakers will be adopted encouraging students to acquire critical analysis and problem identification/solving skills through a “learning-by-doing” approach.
