Objectives of the Course Reviewing the basic economic history of South Asia. Introducing different institutional settings of South Asian countries. Analyzing the economic reform processes in South Asian countries. Introduction into the different economies of South Asia.
Course Content This course serves as an introductory exploration of South Asian economies, spanning from Pakistan to Bangladesh, Nepal to the Maldives, united by close cultural ties and a shared history, such as British colonial rule. Gaining demographic and economic significance, the region is poised to play a crucial role in addressing global challenges like poverty, inequality, and climate change. The course analyzes institutional and cultural aspects, impacting economic structures and the development of South Asian countries, including their foreign economic relations. Students will grasp essential considerations for business relations with South Asian countries.
Course Methods and Techniques This course will utilize methods such as case studies, economic data analysis related to South Asian countries, and group discussions. Students will work with both historical and contemporary examples to understand the economic reform processes and institutional structures of these countries. Additionally, the course will analyze economic growth and development strategies, international trade relations, and efforts to address global challenges in South Asian economies.
