Course Content Forensic psychology refers to professional practice by psychologists when applying the scientific, technical, or specialized knowledge of psychology to the law to assist in addressing legal matters. Accordingly, this course explores the application of psychological theory and research to areas such as police and investigative psychology (e.g., Psychology of Investigations), legal psychology (e.g., consulting with criminal courts), criminal psychology (e.g., development of delinquent and criminal behavior), victimology (e.g., family violence and child victimization), and correctional psychology (e.g., psychology in prisons)
Course Methods and Techniques This is a departmental seminar course at undergraduate level, aiming at introducing students to the diverse areas of forensic psychology practice. I will be uploading lecture notes on CANVAS. The students are highly recommended to print out and read the lecture notes and other pre-assigned reading materials before class. In addition, students are assigned to make a presentation on a selected panel topic/role, engage in class discussions after the panel sessions, and write a reflection report about the panel topic (see assignments section for details). The dates and deadlines for the activities are pre-determined on the syllabus, so it’s the student's responsibility to follow the program and deadlines.
