Objectives of the Course Identify traditional vs modern fermentation technics, comprehend key developments in biotechnology specifically on fermentation
Understand genetic engineering, cloning of animals and how to grow animal cells, tissues and artificial meat
Understand genetic engineering of plants, genome editing and regulations and learn bacteriophage -from foe to friend
Present a biotechnology topic in teams
Course Content The course deals with the major elements of biotechnology and its global significance, the categories of biotechnological processes and products, and a comparison between "traditional" vs "modern" biotechnology processes. In addition, following topics will be covered: 1) the key developments in the history of biotechnology specifically - fermentation, 2) genetic engineering and cloning of animals, 3) growing animal cells, tissues and meat, 4) genetic engineering of plants 5) genome editing and regulations, and 6) bacteriophages.
Course Methods and Techniques Lectures, particular talks by prominent scientists, quizzes, articles will be included within the course content.
