Objectives of the Course - Criticizing the mainstream approaches to defense policymaking
- Understanding of some of the major issues and debates in the realm of defense
- Exercising an independent approach to many of the most critical challenges to contemporary defense policymaking
- Acquiring insights into the means of and challenges to addressing defense problems
Course Content The political economy of defense presents a holistic approach that bounds the economics and politics together while analyzing the defense issues. In doing so, the political economy of defense focuses on (1) the political dimensions of economic actions in the defense realm, (2) the economic dimensions of the political actions in the defense realms, and (3) the security dimensions of the political-economic actions. Thus, this course will investigate the complex world of defense decision-making through the lens of the political economy of defense.
