Course Content
|
This class has been designed to introduce a brief history of Modern Turkey to international students via explaining the basic historical roots of the current Turkish society. In the first semester of this course, we will focus on the rise and decline of the Ottoman Empire which had survived for centuries. In this regard, the instructor will narrate how a multi-ethnic and multi-religious social structure which has been ruled by a single family has emerged. Around such a brief theme, the instructor will discuss the historical structuration of social, economic, and political life in the empire and its geostrategic importance in the European state system. During lectures, the domestic and international turning points which shaped the Ottoman Empire will be explained.
