Course Content

Political marketing consultants often operate in the shadows of political
campaigns, but this course puts them front and centre. The course has three
goals. First, it introduces students to key concepts and theories underlying
contemporary political branding. In doing so, it links to more general
approaches from political communication. Second, it seeks to develop
students’ communicative skills in a campaign context by having students
develop their own political marketing plan for a party or candidate of their
choosing. Third, it addresses the normative and ethical implications of
political marketing on politics, and democracy more broadly
