Course Content This course is an introduction to European integration. It has been analyzing
the European integration process since the Second World War and examining
the main institutions, policies and problems of the European Union (EU). The
course consists of six main sections. In the first part, the origin and historical
development of European integration is examined. The second part of the
course deals with theories of European integration. This section will examine
neo-functionalism, intergovernmentalism and some new approaches. In the
third part, the main institutions and actors of the EU will be discussed. In the
fourth chapter, the decision-making process of the Community will be
analyzed. In the fifth chapter, some policies will be explained. In this section,
the enlargement process, EU s foreign, security and defense policy and
economic and monetary union will be discussed. In the last part of the course,
some issues and debates such as democracy and economic crisis will be
analyzed.
