Objectives of the Course
|
1. Develop knowledge the history of women’s struggle for equality from different parts of the World including Turkey. 2. Comprehend the theory of socialization and gender roles in strerotypes. 3.Raise awareness and increase empathy towards women’s struggle for equality. 4. Understand women’s representation in Government politics in Different countries. 5. Develop knowledge of violece against women and women’s struggle to end this.

Course Content
|
This course will cover a wide range of topics from the history of women’s struggles to gender theory and contemporary problems facing women such as violence against women. The course will contain readings both from different parts of the World as well as Turkey that cover the milestone struggles towards gender equality. The suffrage movement and women’s movement in Turkey would be significant resources for students. We will also touch upon gender streotypes to question our own role in holding the patriarchical system intact.
