Objectives of the Course At the end of this course students will be able to;
• Learn basic concepts and rules of probability and statistics
• Learn the basic properties of discrete and continuous probability
• distributions and how to apply common distributions to random
phenomena
• Learn basic methods for collecting and describing statistical data
• Learn how to apply basic methods of estimation and testing in
problems of statistical inference
• Learn about the basics of Linear regression and its various types with
applications.
Course Content The course provides an introduction to probability and statistics. Topics include descriptive statistics, principles of counting, permutations, combinations, probability, random variables, expectation, sampling statistics, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, and Linear Regression models and their details. At the end of the semester, students will learn the applications of all probabilistic and statistical concepts to engineering, design, and economics and will be able to analyze problems in their academic fields from a probabilistic, statistical, and mathematical perspective.
Course Methods and Techniques This course will be taught through lecturing face to face in class and also online problem-solving sessions by paying attention to mathematical and probabilistic thinking and using technology in lectures. Additionally, homework and worksheets will be given.
