Objectives of the Course To provide an understanding of basic concepts in disaster management, definitions and terminology used in disaster management, types and categories of disasters.
To identify decision-making problems at various stages of disaster management.
To investigate operations research models used to solve several problems in disaster operations management.
To provide an understanding of the important role of logistics and supply chain management in different phases of disaster management cycle.
Course Content The course is intended to provide a general concept in the dimensions of disasters caused by nature beyond the human control as well as the disasters and environmental hazards induced by human activities with emphasis on disaster preparedness, response and recovery. The course mainly investigates operations research models used to solve several problems in disaster operations management. The models span issues in mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery phases of disaster management.
