Introducing the most important concepts of institutional economics. Introducing the analysis of firms and markets from an institutional economics point of view. Introducing the analysis of the economic development of a country from the point of view of institutional economics. Introducing the institutional economic analysis of some example social issues.

Course Content
|
The course is focused on “new institutional economics” with an emphasis on the influence of institutions and institutional know-how and behavior on economic performance. Students are introduced to concepts of institutions, organizations, property rights and transaction costs. Effects of these on workings of firms, markets, states, and on economic growth are also analyzed. In addition, influence of institutions on some example social issues such as environmental problems and crime are also discussed.
