Objectives of the Course Showing examples of how international trade affects economic development, international politics and conflicts, and the environment.
Introducing trade policy and the economic effects of different trade policy instruments.
Examining the factors that influence international trade patterns and their impacts on income distribution between and within countries.
Course Content Aim of the course is to introduce the subject of international trade as a subdiscipline in economics. 5-6 foundational subjects in international trade are examined at introductory level. Causes and consequences of international trade and investment are discussed throughout the course. Questions such as why nations trade, what they trade, who gains (or not) from trade are also investigated. In addition, the development of the basis of trade are be examined using comparative and absolute advantage concepts, partial and general equilibrium analysis, the Heckscher Ohlin model, and intra-industry trade theories.
