Analyzing competition briefs to identify design challenges, objectives, and evaluation criteria. Developing innovative urban design strategies in response to real or simulated competition scenarios. Communicating design ideas effectively through visual, verbal, and written representation techniques suitable for competition submissions.

Course Content

This course explores the culture, process, and significance of urban design competitions as a means of shaping contemporary cities. Through case studies, lectures, and studio-based exercises, students will engage with real and hypothetical competition briefs to understand how urban design ideas are developed, communicated, and evaluated within competitive frameworks. The course will also address the role of competitions in public policy, architectural discourse, and professional practice.
