Objectives of the Course Beyond contributing to the general development of students’ intellectual maturity and abilities, the more specific objectives of the course include:
1. Understanding new foreign policy concepts and models. ?
2. Employing foreign policy models to Turkey’s foreign policy. ?
3. Communicating academically about Turkish foreign policy. ?
4. Understanding the trade-offs and difficulties in Turkish foreign policy
decision-making.
Course Content In the course, we will analyze the development of Turkish Foreign Policy from a historical point of view. First, we will examine the legacy of the Ottoman Empire’s foreign policy. Our second topic will be the foreign policy in the early republican era. Third, we will investigate the strategies Turkey developed in the context of the Cold War. Lastly, we will discuss the main pillars of Turkish Foreign Policy in the post-Cold War era.
