In this second installment of this class, we will discuss issues in comparative government, party systems and different ways of "doing" politics. First, we will learn about some basic concepts and debates everyone interested in politics should master: the concepts of comparative government and comparative constitutional law. We will pay particular attention to branches of the government, the functioning of bureaucracy and political parties. We will also talk about various ways of "doing politics," that is, different actions and organizations that seek to "change the world." Also, we will continue to develop your skill to make an evidence-based political argument on writing.

Video Responses: (40 % of your total grade) Each week, I will upload several video presentations. There will be one or two questions in some of them. I will ask you to write a 1-2 paragraph (Say 200-400 words) answer and upload it on Canvas. Each will be graded on a scale of 5. You will automatically get a five if your answer reflects your mastery of the material I discuss in the video. You will get a lower grade if you answer the questions without watching the videos in their entirety. There will be a total of ten assignments. You can miss two submissions without penalties. If you do all ten, I will ignore your two lowest scores. The deadline for each response is 12:05 PM on Wednesday of the week they are due. No late submissions of any kind will be accepted.
Take-Home Mid-term (30% of the total grade): On April 4, I will ask two open-ended questions and give you four days to answer and upload those. I will continue accepting late submissions with a 10 % (3 pts) penalty for 24 hours.
Take-Home Final (30% of the total grade): On May 26, I will ask two open-ended questions and give you four days to answer and upload those. I will continue accepting late submissions with a 10 % (3 pts) penalty for 24 hours. The dates are subject to change depending upon other courses final dates.
