Objectives of the Course - Familiarize students with the main problematics of political science.
- Familiarize students with the main political ideologies
- Familiarize students with the main problems of political regimes literature
- Familiarize students with the different aspects of the concept “state”
- Enabling students to make solid arguments based on social scientific thinking.
Course Content Introduction to Political Science classes aims to familiarize the student with the main problematics of the discipline and its terminology. In this first instalment of this class, we will discuss the history of political science and its methodological debates, political ideologies, political regimes and the concept “state.” In addition, students will work on their argumentative writing skills.
Course Methods and Techniques

Video Responses: (40 % of your total grade) Each week, I will upload several video presentations. There will be one or two questions in some of them. I will ask you to write a 1-2 paragraph (Say 200-400 words) answer and upload it on Canvas. Each will be graded on a scale of 5. You will get automatically a 5 if your answer reflects your mastery of the material I discuss in the video. You will get a lower grade if you answer the questions without watching the videos in its entirety. There will be a total of eleven assignments. You can miss three submissions without penalties. If you do all eleven, I will ignore your three lowest scores. The deadline for each response is 18:00 on Wednesday of the week they are due. No late submissions of any kind will be accepted.

Mid-term (30% of the total grade): On Dec 8th, there will be an in-class mid-term. The exam will consist of a blend of open-ended questions and multiple-choice questions.


Take-Home Final (30% of the total grade): On January 12th, I will ask two open-ended questions and give you three days to answer and upload those. I will continue accepting late submissions with a 10 % (4 pts) penalty for 24 hours. The date is subject to change.
