- Identifying the bioengineering laboratory concept and lab safety. - Recognizing the microscope and cell culture techniques. - Understanding fundamental microbiology laboratory applications such as aseptic techniques, media preparation, isolation of microbes and gram staining. - Giving knowledge about basic principles of fluid dynamics as well as heat transfer

Course Content

This applied laboratory course covers following practices: 1) Sterilization and aseptic techniques, media preparation and transfer of microorganisms, 2) Gram staining and microscopic observation of microorganisms, 3) Microbial growth and growth curve and microbial cell count, 4) Isolation and preservation of microorganisms from environment

Safety Quiz (pre- and post-instruction), Hazard Scenario Analysis (case studies), Lab Tour (identifying safety equipment and procedures), Online Safety Modules (supplementary material), Microscope Handling Workshop (focus on focusing, slide preparation, and image acquisition), Cell Culture Lab (demonstrating sterile technique, cell counting, and media changes), Video Tutorials (reinforcing procedures), Microscopy Image Analysis Exercise (identifying cell types and structures)
