Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
NoLearning Outcomes
1 Recognize functional groups in organic chemistry and name representative molecules from each class using IUPAC rules for organic nomenclature
2 Predict structure and reactivity of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ethers, and alkyl halides based on such factors as carbon atom hybridization, bond length, bond strength, and bond polarity.
3 Recognize and provide curved arrow mechanisms for the different types of organic reactions.
4 Determine the configurations for chiral molecules; distinguish between enantiomers, diastereomers, meso compounds, and conformational isomers.
5 Define basic polymerization techniques
