Course Methods and Techniques
|
Within the scope of the course, it is aimed to explain the tools and methods of urban design and planning in line with the principles of Urbanism, to explain the effects of urban-environmental relations on design and the significance of spatial data in the development of cities, to develop skills to analyze space and reveal problems by using notation techniques, and to make theoretical explanations about urban studies scaled settings. The course introduces the dimensions of urban design & planning as well as the social, economic and political processes in relation to production of urban space. The course involves in a design exercise to establish a relationship between urban and architectural scales. With the weekly studies to be carried out in line with this purpose, an urban studies xperiment will be carried out by examining the data obtained by using spatial analysis methods in the selected urban space. Weekly workshops and theoretical lectures will support the design process. Within the scope of this course; the approach to the city will start from the macro scale and will proceed in the form of theoretical lectures and weekly assignments until half of the semester. In the other half of the semester, a field trip will be organized, 1/5000 scale analyses will be examined, data on the site will be collected, sub-regional decisions will be decided at 1/2000 scale. At the end of the semester, it will be concluded with decisions on 1/1000 scale. Arch 302 architectural design studio 4, which is opened in the spring semester and will be taken by the same student group, will start with 1/1000 urban design scale and thus horizontal integration will be ensured between these 2 courses.
