Objectives of the Course 1. Illustrating the use of academic English and conventions in the use of texts;
2. Applying critical reading skills to evaluate source texts for credibility and appropriateness;
3. Outlining the ideas expressed in appropriate source texts such that they can be incorporated into student writing;
4. Creating an argumentative essay, demonstrating the use of proper essay structure.1. Metinlerin kullanımında akademik İngilizce ve kuralların kullanımının gösterilmesi;
2. Kaynak metinleri güvenilirlik ve uygunluk açısından değerlendirmek için eleştirel okuma becerilerini uygulamak;
3. Uygun kaynak metinlerde ifade edilen fikirleri, öğrenci yazısına dahil edilebilecek şekilde ana hatlarıyla belirtmek;
4. Uygun kompozisyon yapısının kullanımını göstererek tartışmacı bir kompozisyon oluşturma.
Course Content English 101 is designed as an introduction to the conventions of academic English. This course covers skills such as finding appropriate research materials, summarizing information, using citations, constructing and supporting arguments, and critical thinking in general. In this context, students will be presented with and expected to interact with a wide range of texts, eventually producing a written essay on a topic they have researched in depth.
